What Panchakarma Actually Involves

Most of what is sold as panchakarma is a massage with a longer name. Here is the difference.

What Panchakarma Actually Involves

Panchakarma means five actions. It is a purification sequence, and the treatments most visitors picture - the oil, the warm stream across the forehead - are the preparation for it rather than the thing itself.

A genuine programme begins with days of oleation, internal and external, before anything is eliminated. That preparation cannot be compressed. This is why a physician will decline to run panchakarma inside a week, and why a resort offering it over a long weekend is offering something else.

The middle of a programme is frequently the hardest part. Guests report tiredness around day six or seven that has nothing to do with the flight. It passes, and what follows is the part people come back for.

The final days are Rasayana: rebuilding. Diet broadens, energy returns, and the physician writes out what to continue at home. That last consultation matters more than most guests expect at the time.
